When I think of Olivia Wilde, I don’t think of tons of makeup and elegant hairstyle. Her cool-girl style is all about her minimalist approach and power to combine different pieces of cloth and still look great.
Since teen years, I’m obsessed with hats. From ‘80s Debbie Gibson-style wide brim hats and the ‘90s Blossom-style fold-up hats, through to Parisian berets and baseball hats. Yeah that’s right, I am a hat girl. As a kid I didn’t mind combining various hats with any outfit, but as I got older I got completely confused and gave up on hats as I didn’t know what to wear and how to style my hair while wearing them.
And then along came Olivia Wilde with her appealing hat combinations. What grabbed my eye and triggered again my desire to wear hats (so I immediately took advantage of some online store’s hats for sale and bought five different ones) was her one casual outfit when she effortlessly paired a cool hat with a casual braid, jeans and a simple white tee. When I saw her, I’ve realized that I was completely overthinking it! The whole point of wearing a hat and still looking good is throwing it on, and stay cool. Do not plan everything out.

Start with dry hair (not freshly washed, but if you have oily roots apply some dry shampoo), part it to one side and braid loosely over one shoulder. Allow face-framing layers to fall out as they may. On that way you will create more casual and natural look. Add your brimmed hat, combine it with some cool jeans and t-shirt and off you go. Give yourself some time to get used to the look. The style will look cooler as the day goes on, so stop focusing on your hat.
You can also combine a nice wide brim with a casual short/maxi dress and nice summery boots. Finish the look with oversized bag, sunglasses and vibrant colour lipstick. This summer will be a total hit!
